This time the inspiration behind the red colourway with a slightly metallic hue, is clearly to honour The flag and domestic colours for Ronaldo’s home country, Portugal.
The sneakers are a follow up to the “Gold Patchwork” sell-out release at the latter part of 2017.
Now this new Portugal Red iteration brings back the patched midsole which in of itself tells a heartwarming story. The short version is Nike and Ronaldo chose this unique upper design in tribute to the football stars mother. She supported Ronaldo’s love for religiously playing football as a child.
The result back then ofcourse is Ronaldo constantly wore holes into his shoes which he used for both playing and school. So his mother would patch up his shoes because they couldn’t buy him new shoes. For the full story check out our post for the Golden Patchwork CR7 AM97 here.
So we now look to this Portuguese Red second entry…and they’re hot. As you can see the midsole is a chillI red made up of tumbled and patent leather sitting on a pure white and black rubber outsole.
The signature Air Max 97 360 Air unit remains unchanged, but does maintain the red theme within the pods of the Air bubble. As with the previous Golden Patchwork version mentioned earlier, the heel tab combines Ronaldo’s famous shirt number and abbreviation of his name displaying his signature acronym “CR7”.
